Lunacek welcomes EP green light to the participation of Kosovo in EU programmes
The European Parliament today gave green light to the participation of Kosovo in EU programmes. Ulrike Lunacek, Vice President of the European Parliament and standing rapporteur on Kosovo, welcomes this decision. Commenting after the vote Lunacek said:
„I strongly welcome this decision of the European Parliament to adopt the participation of Kosovo in EU programmes with a large majority. The participation of Kosovo in Union programmes will strengthen the European perspective for Kosovo citizens and deepen the relations between them and EU citizens.
The Agreement will permit the gradual participation in certain Union programmes for Kosovo, offering an opportunity to promote further environmental, technical, scientific cultural, and educational links and enhancing people-to-people contacts such as Erasmus+. In this sense the Agreement plays another important role in Kosovo’s path towards EU membership.
With this important vote the European Parliament again shows its strong commitment to Kosovo. I am urging Kosovo politicians and parties to swiftly form a government with a European spirit to continue Kosovo’s path towards the EU and to move forward on the way to visa liberalisation, so yearned for by Kosovo citizens.“
